Roleystone Lawn Bowls

We encourage players of all experience levels and skill to come and enjoy lawn bowls on our beautiful greens. Whether pennants or tournament players, or social bowlers, everyone is welcome down for a roll up.

ON THE GREENS

RULES OF PLAY

The following rules apply anytime you are on the bowling greens, regardless of whether you’re a social/casual player, or a pennants/competitive player.

• No shoes on the green unless rubber flat sole.

• No glass on the greens.

• No smoking on, or near, the greens.

• No dumping of bowls.

ROLL UP

CASUAL BOWLS

Casual bowling is very welcome and you will almost always find a bowler, either on the green or around the club, keen to join you for a roll if you need company. It’s free for Bowls Members, or if you’re just interested in having some fun you can pay $5/person for a casual bowl.

We often have groups of casual bowlers booking a time slot for an after work celebration or relaxation.  You can book with the Club Captain, or contact the club and book through the bar.

Anyone can play casual bowls as long as they wear suitable (rubber, flat-soled) footwear or go barefoot.

Members are encouraged to bring guests along for a casual bowl, and the club can supply bowls for $5/person if your guests don’t have their own.

If you want to play bowls more competitively, consider joining one of our Pennants teams.  The season begins in September, and we currently have teams in three divisions: Men’s Weekdays 3rd division, and Men’s Saturdays 3rd & 5th divisions.

The club has a group of experienced selectors who select the teams each week, based on form, availability, and chemistry.

If you’re interested in getting involved, read more about Bowls Memberships below, or contact the Club Captain by email or as at the bar.

JOIN A TEAM

MEMBERSHIP

Bowls Membership is required to play pennants or in official competitions.

The Bowls Membership year starts in late September so all memberships should be current just prior to the first game of pennants each year; late September or early October.

To join, simply complete the Bowls Membership Form (available at the bar) and pay the annual membership fee ($140 in 2022).  Annual renewal can either be paid via transfer to the club bank account, or over the bar.

Membership allows you to play pennants, to play in any official competitions within Australia, and the right to play on our greens free of charge whenever you want.

When are tournaments & competitions?

There are various tournaments and competitions year round. Flyers are displayed on the Bowls Notice Board in the club, or you can email Buzz (Club Captain) to find out about upcoming competitions and events.

Do you have to be a club member to become a bowls member?

No, you can just be a Bowls Member.

While you do not have to become a Club Member, it is worthwhile for the 20% discount on drinks at the bar, as well as securing your right to vote for the committee members of your choice.

Find out more about Club Membership here.

Who coordinates the competitions?

Bowls WA and Bowls Australia are the governing bodies of the sport.

How are teams selected?

For Pennants, the club has a group of experienced selectors who select the teams each week based on form, availability, and chemistry.

For competitions and tournaments, players form their own teams to enter.

Do you have to be experienced to play competitively?

You don’t have to be experienced to join the tournaments, anyone who is a member of a Bowls WA affiliated club (such as Roleystone) can play in virtually all tournaments, except those reserved for a certain level of pennant bowler (but these are very rare).

Do you supply bowls or do players need to bring their own?

For casual players: bowls hire is included in the $5/person casual playing fee.

For members: bowls hire is included in your membership.  If you are bringing guests, the club can supply bowls at $5 per person if your guests don’t have their own.

I'm not an experienced player; do you have any tips?

Best to come in and have a chat with one of our super friendly bowlers, you will always find at least one of them around the club.

They will love to help you out.
